🇪🇬 Hurghada — "Wave"

Hurghada, Red Sea, Egypt

An unresolved entry. "Wave" is almost certainly the name of the boat rather than the site; the position is a best guess at the El Mina wreck.

Placeholder site, about 450 m east of the Hurghada harbour breakwater: the name 'Hurghada Wave' is most likely a boat, and the site is set on the El Mina (El Minya) wreck off Hurghada harbour. The map shows the 58 x 8.5 m T-43 minesweeper lying on her port side, bow at about 26 m, stern at 32 m, the bomb hole at 19 m and the mooring on the stern. Position, size and depths from the Red Sea Wreck Project (27°13.543'N 33°50.861'E); the NW-SE orientation from aquariusredsea.com, with the bow assumed to point north-west; the Hassabella trawler a few minutes' swim away is left off because its bearing is unknown. Positions are approximate.

This one is a placeholder and is flagged as such.

The log records a dive on 18 October 2017 at Hurghada to 31.2 m, against the name Wave. There is no dive site of that name at Hurghada. Wave is much more likely to be the boat — the last dive of the liveaboard week, logged by vessel rather than location as people do when they are packing.

The depth is the only clue. 31.2 m on the way back into Hurghada, on the last dive of a trip, points at the El Mina — an Egyptian minesweeper sunk by Israeli aircraft in 1970, lying just outside Hurghada harbour at about 30 m, which is the standard final dive coming home. The position is set there, and the verified field says so.

If the original log page ever turns up with a boat stamp, this should be revisited.
