Gota Abu Ramada, the Aquarium: the oval reef on white sand at 12-15 m, the moorings on its southern flank, the two ergs about 20 m off the west side (the northern one with three peaks), the three pinnacles and coral garden off the east side, and the two usual routes, east or west from the mooring and back. Reef outline and mooring from OpenStreetMap; the ergs and routes from dive-centre site descriptions (redsea-diving.com, divers-guide.com), placed by description, so their positions and the sand extent are approximate. South-east of Hurghada, a shallow reef of coral pillars and table corals standing on brilliant white sand, with a maximum depth of about 15 m across the whole site. Everybody calls it the Aquarium, and for once the nickname earns itself: the towers hold enormous standing shoals of glassfish, anthias and goatfish, with bannerfish and Napoleon wrasse working through them.
Because it is shallow, sheltered and safe it is the classic second or third dive of the day, and dives here run long — 76 minutes on one of the three in this log.
Dived 2 December 2009 and again on 17 October 2017.
