Traced from the guidelines on Rory O'Keefe's Survey Down map of Cenote Dos Palmas (Jan 2022, 11,432 m surveyed; lines as highlighted on cave-ha.com), north up, scale from the map's 100 m bar via the Dos Palmas to Nicte-Ha distance (406 m). Only the major guidelines are drawn; penetration labels are the map's distances from Dos Palmas (upstream mainline 580 m, then about 380 m more to Dos Ojos; downstream mainline to Nicte-Ha 540 m) and depths are the few legible guideline depths. The short tie from the north line to the upstream mainline next to the entrance is hidden under the map's labels and was inferred from the penetration figures; a few side lines whose ties were not visible are left unconnected. Positions are approximate. The AMCS 'Grutas de las Palmas' PDF in the vault is a different cave near Playa del Carmen and was not used.
Dos Palmas is one of the ways into the Dos Ojos section. Steve Gerrard first laid line here in 1991, running upstream towards Dos Ojos and downstream towards Nicte Ha.
For twenty-seven years Dos Ojos was its own system. In January 2018 Robbie Schmittner made the connection to Sistema Sac Actun, and at a stroke Sac Actun became the longest underwater cave system on Earth — the single largest cartographic event in the history of cave diving, achieved by finding a gap wide enough to fit through.
Four dives between February 2025 and February 2026, maximum 10.8 m, longest 126 minutes.
