The narrow U-shaped marsa of Gabal el Rosas opening to the north-east: the sandy bottom from 7 m at the jetty to 30-40 m at the mouth, the north reef with its hanging coral garden and Anemone City outside the point, the caves in the south reef. Coastline, reef flats and jetty from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL); features and depths are placed against the OSM reef edges. The entry is assumed at the OSM jetty on the north side of the bay head; the route (out along the north wall, back past the south caves) is a typical shore dive, not a signed trail. All positions are approximate.

A bay on the coast south of Marsa Alam, of the standard southern type: a marsa, a drowned wadi mouth, with a sandy seagrass floor inside and a reef across the entrance.
Three dives here — 28 July and 1 August 2007, to 23.4 m. Sites of this kind in the deep south are dived for what is on the seagrass (turtles, and with luck a dugong) rather than for the coral.
