🇳🇱 't Grasbroek, Bornerbroek

A 30-hectare sand-extraction lake between Delden and Bornerbroek in Overijssel, on the grounds of camping 't Grasbroek. Maximum depth about 12 m, though the log records 16 m.

After the sand was taken out, local divers simply used it. A campsite and recreation lake grew up around them, arrangements were made, and diving carried on — which is how most Dutch inland sites came to exist. It is generally described as the best dive site in Overijssel, and on any weekend it is full of clubs and courses.

Various things have been put on the bottom: an underwater obstacle course, a wreck that pike-perch sit in, and the Twents Onderwaterhuis — the Arcadis underwater house — whose entrance is at 11 m and whose roof at 5 m doubles as a training platform.

Sixty-nine dives

More than any other site anywhere in this log: 69 dives between July 2005 and October 2025, twenty years of them. Longest 93 minutes.

This is what a home site looks like. It is ten minutes from Enschede, it costs nothing, it is diveable in any weather, and every skill, every new piece of kit and every course has been through it. The Red Sea and the cenotes get written up; Grasbroek is where the diving actually happened.
