Plan of the Combe Nègre resurgence from the Dordogne backwater through the entrance sumps, the salle, the 478 m main sump, the dry passage with its fossil bypass and the terminal sump, traced from the 1996 survey plan (B. Gauche, J.-C. Collette, H. Jambert, 1:5000) on plongeesout.ffspeleo.fr. Depths and distances are the survey's; the link between the upstream and downstream sumps under the fossil network is only a probable junction. The owner's two dives (max 8.7 m) stayed in the entrance sumps and the start of the main sump; positions are approximate.
An independent resurgence into the Dordogne at Pinsac, near Souillac, with no named system: narrow passages and short siphons rather than a big flooded trunk.
The name is a trap. There is a Grotte de Combe Nègre at Montbrun, 40 km away; there is a locality called La Combe Nègre at Sauliac-sur-Célé; and there is another near Payrignac. The dive site is the Source de Combe Nègre de Lanzac at Pinsac, confirmed independently by thecavetobe.com's GPS list and by the Spéléo Club de Souillac's own videos of the site. The workbook was pinned to the Payrignac namesake, 21 km away.
