Plan of sump 1 of the Réseau de l'Ouysse from the Gouffre de Cabouy upstream past the Gouffre de Pou Meyssen (p.782 m) to the first air surface, traced from the Hidden River Project survey (T. Schnitter, 2014-2023, 1:2000). Depths are the survey's water-depth marks at the nearest station and penetration labels are the survey's distances from the Cabouy pool surface; the upper loop near p.500 m is a parallel passage. The owner's dives turned at about 300-350 m, before the p.500 m chamber; positions are approximate and the survey places the pool about 140 m south of the site coordinate.

The Ouysse is a river that spends most of its life underground. It sinks on the Causse de Gramat east of Rocamadour and comes back up in two places at the foot of the plateau: here at Cabouy, and 1.2 km west at the Gouffre Saint-Sauveur. Font del Truffe, further north-east, belongs to the same basin.

Cabouy is a deep pool at the edge of a field, and it is the main diving entrance to the Ouysse system. The passage runs back under the causse with substantial flow — this is a resurgence, so you swim in against the current and get carried out.
