Hin Daeng (Red Rock), a boulder pinnacle 70 km offshore whose three tops just break the surface, with the ridge towards Hin Muang; sides and depths from Phuket Dive Guide: sheer soft-coral wall to 60-70 m+ on the south-west, gentler slope on the east, a sand channel on the north separating the coral outcrop used as a manta cleaning station. The site coordinates (an OSM reef node at 7.3676, 98.8758) sit 24 km north-east of the real pinnacle; the origin here is the OSM dive-site node at 7.1490, 98.8236, which agrees with divezone. Positions are approximate.

Hin Daeng — red rock — is an isolated pinnacle in open water about 70 km south-west of Koh Lanta, with nothing around it. A small piece of it breaks the surface; the rest drops away steeply on all sides past 60 m.

The name comes from the red and pink soft corals that cover the rock from the surface down. Because it stands alone in deep water it acts as a magnet: manta rays, and the best chance in Thailand of a whale shark, along with grey reef sharks and large schools of trevally and barracuda.

It is not a beginner's site. There is no shelter, the current runs hard, and the boat ride is three hours each way.

Two dives on 28 November 2013, to 24 m — the last day of the trip.
